Healing after a traumatic accident varies widely between individuals. Healing depends on many factors, including inflammation, infection, moisture, tension, swelling, accurate approximation of skin edges and genetics. There are systemic factors that affect healing as well, such as nutrition, hydration, connective tissue disease, vascular disease or other systemic illness.
If you have delayed healing or a scar that has healed poorly, contact us to request a consultation with Dr. Chandler. Treatment for poor scarring depends on timing since injury. If your injury was recent, there are actions you can take to improve the appearance of the scar in the short term. If your injury was a long time ago, a scar revision may be appropriate to excise the scar and close the incision in a manner to promote optimal healing and scarring.
