Natural Facelift
Dr. Chandler received specialty training in the latest facial rejuvenation techniques during her fellowship at Harvard Medical School. She uses an individualized approach, depending on the unique needs of each patient, to help men and women throughout Connecticut and New York achieve a younger, more refreshed appearance. The aging process has a variable effect on the facial architecture depending on individual anatomy, and the treatment plan is tailored to each individual.

When performing a face and neck lift, Dr. Chandler separates the skin from the underlying deeper muscle/fascia layer (SMAS) to tighten each layer separately, eliminating the jowls while avoiding excess tension on the skin to create a youthful and natural shape to the face. She will separately address the neck musculature and use advanced techniques to eliminate bands and remove the surface laxity to smooth the jawline. The ultimate goal is to achieve a natural result, preserving identity while providing a more rejuvenated appearance to the face and neck.

A surgical facelift and/or neck lift is the ideal choice for patients who are bothered by jowls (excess drooping skin in the lower part of the cheek) and/or neck skin laxity or excess, with or without vertical platysmal banding in the neck. Excess fatty tissue in the region of the neck below the chin (submental fat) can be treated simultaneously or separately with liposuction. If you are not ready for surgery, you may benefit from nonsurgical techniques such as microneedling, chemical peels, advanced skin care, or treatment of fine lines with Botox or injectable fillers to address signs of aging. You may also benefit from combining these techniques with a surgical facelift or neck lift. During your consultation, Dr. Chandler will analyze your individual needs, discuss your goals and come up with a comprehensive and customized treatment plan.

Postoperative Care

This operation is well tolerated by most patients. Discomfort is minimal, although there will be some bruising which will resolve within the first two weeks. Stitches are removed at 1 and 2 weeks. Most swelling will resolve over the first few weeks, with complete resolution of swelling happening much more gradually over a period of months. Most patients return to work in about 2 weeks and resume a normal lifestyle in about one month. You should expect to avoid strenuous activity for 4 weeks.

NATURAL FACELIFT Q&A:

What is a Natural Facelift?
A natural facelift is a procedure designed to smooth and lift the lower third of the face and neck, involving well-hidden incisions around and behind the ear, within the hairline of the temple, and sometimes under the chin depending on what type of treatment is chosen to tighten the neck. The results are natural in appearance, without appearing overdone or too tight.
What are the risks involved in a facelift?
Dr. Chandler will discuss all risks in detail during your consultation. Although the natural facelift is designed to carry a lower risk for healing problems, rare risks include infection, scarring, bleeding, fluid collections, asymmetry and nerve damage. Blood pressure control in the postoperative period is critical in reducing risk for bleeding and fluid collections. Dr. Chandler will advise you on appropriate postoperative activity levels to help minimize this risk.
